Honey Myrtle - the new wonder oil.
It's exciting news in the Essential Oil world when a new oil is discovered. It’s really unusual for a new essential oil to come to light and even more unusual to have an oil with the exceptional properties of Honey Myrtle. This extremely rare oil has a very low yield and is only produced by one farm in Australia. No wonder Honey Myrtle is attracting a lot of interest both from the aromatherapy and the pharmaceutical worlds.
Honey Myrtle oil comes from the plant Melaleuca Tereifolia. If the name sounds familiar it's because it's from the same family as Tea Tree oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia. Like its better known cousin, Honey Myrtle contains exceptional anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Clinical studies are only just beginning, but the signs are that Honey Myrtle is a powerful essential oil, and interestingly more powerful than Tea Tree as an anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and anti-bacterial.
One of the most charming aspects of Honey Myrtle is the rich, sweet, deep honey aroma. Forget the medicinal smell of Tea Tree oil, Honey Myrtle is a real joy to the senses.
Honey Myrtle is a really powerful oil so must be used with caution. It blends well with Sandalwood and Lavender – a truly powerful combination! Use as a blend in a carrier oil or balm (5 drops into 10ml) to treat cuts or bites, as a warm compress to help respiratory conditions or a few drops in the bath to enjoy the warm honey aroma.
